Operation Prato

PRAH-too
Brazil's air force hunting lights over the Amazon in 1977
Documented

The official investigation

Ordered by regional command, Captain Uyrangê Hollanda's team interviewed hundreds of witnesses and produced roughly 500 photographs and 16 hours of film. Medical records from the Colares clinic document patients with burns and anemia-like symptoms during the flap. The files were declassified in stages beginning in 1997, and Hollanda gave a taped interview describing close encounters two months before his death in 1997, ruled suicide.

Assessment: The files exist because the air force made them.
Stories

The lights that hunt

Witnesses described structured craft, beams that drew blood, and beings inside the light. Later versions merge Prato with a global harvesting program and claim Hollanda was silenced for talking. No physical artifact was ever recovered from Colares.

Assessment: Twenty years of classification fed twenty years of escalation.
Interesting claims

The panic with paperwork

The sober reading: a real mass panic in an isolated river community, real injuries from mundane causes, and a real military investigation whose secrecy converted confusion into legend. Prato is the cleanest case on record of classification acting as an amplifier, where the cover-up is documented and the phenomenon is not.

Assessment: The only proven anomalous object is the filing cabinet.
