John Titor

JON TEE-tor
The self-declared time traveler from 2036 who posted on forums in 2000-2001: a second civil war, a Russian nuclear strike, and a mission to retrieve an IBM 5100.
Documented

The posting record

November 2000 to March 2001, Titor posted on Time Travel Institute and Art Bell forums: soldier from 2036, sent to 1975 for an IBM 5100, needed to debug legacy systems, stopping in 2000 to warn his family. Predictions: civil unrest from 2004, a Waco-type event monthly, open civil war by 2008, nuclear exchange 2015, capital moved to Omaha, the 2004 Olympics the last. Technical color: CERN micro-black holes enabling time travel, worldline divergence explaining why his future might not be ours. None of it happened. The IBM 5100 detail, however, was real: the machine does emulate mainframes, documented but obscure knowledge.

Assessment: The posts are archived; the predictions failed on schedule; the 5100 quirk is the one verified fact in the file.

The Haber brothers

The 2008 Voyager investigation found no John Titor but did find the John Titor Foundation, Kissimmee P.O. box, run by entertainment lawyer Larry Haber, whose brother John is a computer scientist, a pairing that neatly supplies both the legal structure and the IBM esoterica. The Foundation sold a book. The divergence clause, our timeline may differ by a few percent, was engineered upfront to make every failed prediction unfalsifiable, the same armor as Time Cube's ineffability.

Assessment: The investigation is documented; the identity is circumstantial, filed as such. The escape clause is in the original posts.
Interesting claims

The traveler as weather report

The claim: Titor's durability comes from being a mood forecast, not a time forecast, his 2001 imagined civil war, Waco-monthly, federal collapse, reads less like 2036 history than like the anxieties of the post-Waco, pre-9/11 internet, and every era re-reads him as prophecy whenever the mood returns. Verdict: the prediction-failure record is total, but the resonance record keeps renewing, which means the character works as a seismograph of American distrust. He was never from 2036. He was from the comment section, which is timeless.

Worth asking

If the prediction failed but the resume checked out, what was the post actually selling?
