Language

Enochian

the angelic language of Dee and Kelley
A complete language allegedly dictated by angels in the 1580s.
Documented

Recorded in the diaries

John Dee's surviving diaries document the sessions from 1582 onward: Edward Kelley scried, angels dictated letter by letter, sometimes backward. The corpus includes grammar, a lexicon, and the calls. It is the best-documented channeled language in history.

Assessment: Documented down to the furniture. Whatever happened in that room, the paper trail is real and unusually complete.
Stories

The language of creation itself

The tradition's claim: Enochian is the tongue God spoke at creation and the angels still speak, the language Enoch carried to heaven, and pronouncing it correctly moves real forces.

Assessment: The claim is documented from the diaries themselves. No evidence connects the language to any natural language family, and its grammar suspiciously mirrors English, which the faithful call proof of design and linguists call a tell.
Interesting claims

Kelley's long con or Dee's self-dialogue

The skeptical reconstruction: Kelley, whose ears were cropped for forgery, invented the sessions to keep his patron fed and funded, and Dee's longing did the rest. Or Dee unconsciously co-authored his own revelation.

Assessment: Kelley's criminal record is documented, and the backward dictation matches a man inventing words on the fly. But the internal consistency of the corpus is greater than most improvisations, which keeps the argument alive. The archive files no verdict, only the asymmetry: one participant had a record, the other had a motive to believe.

If a fabricated language works as a language, what exactly was fabricated?
