Anamnesis

an-am-NEE-sis
Un-forgetting; Plato's doctrine that learning is the soul recollecting what it knew before birth, the technical ancestor of every remember-your-true-identity instruction in the archive.
Documented

The slave-boy proof

Greek anamnēsis, recollection, ana, again, plus mimnēskein, to remember, names Plato's doctrine in the Meno and Phaedo: the soul, having seen the Forms before embodiment, knows the truth already, and learning is recovering it. The Meno's exhibit is documented theater: Socrates questions an uneducated slave boy through a geometry problem the boy could not have been taught, demonstrating that the knowledge was in him, awaiting the right questions. The Phaedo argues the doctrine's corollary, since we recollect, the soul pre-exists the body, and philosophy is practice for death, meletē thanatou, the rehearsal of the separation the soul will perform. The gnostic systems inherit the machinery whole: the spark's descent is forgetting, the call is remembering, salvation is anamnesis with a password attached.

Assessment: The term, the Meno demonstration, and the Phaedo argument are documented. The gnostic inheritance is documented in the pleroma wing's texts, the archive's cross-reference.

The forgetting as the curriculum's price

The folk tradition around anamnesis runs through every mystery school: the soul drinks from Lethe, forgetfulness, before birth, and the whole of life is the slow undoing of the drink, the Platonic river becoming the Buddhist veil, the gnostic sleep, the Ra material's engineered amnesia, and the trap theory's memory wipe, five shelves, one hydrology. The folk corollary is the archive's favorite: if the forgetting is universal, the remembering must be doable in harness, no jars, no monasteries required, the slave boy being the doctrine's permanent exhibit, an uneducated laborer as the proof that the archive's deepest file is already in every reader.

Assessment: The Lethe motif and the cross-tradition parallels are documented. The accessibility corollary is the doctrine's own, from the Meno's choice of demonstrator.
Interesting claims

The amnesia economy

The claim: anamnesis is the archive's master key to the whole harvest wing, every trap, farm, veil, and password system being a theory about the same transaction, who profits from the forgetting and who pays for the remembering, Plato's version being the only one where the answer is nobody and the forgetting is just gravity, which is either the deepest wisdom on the shelf or the best cover story the wardens ever planted. Verdict: the archive files the asymmetry: the trap traditions say the forgetting is imposed, Plato says it is intrinsic, and both agree the remedy is the same unpaid labor, recollection, available to a slave boy in a courtyard. The documentary this wing references ends where Plato begins: remember your true identity. The Meno ends with the boy proving he already knew the square. The archive's note: he was never taught. Neither were you. The questions are the teaching. That is the whole site.
